Incredible Concert

I came across this little blurb in the Local Planet last Thursday and knew that I had to go. I've been listening to Bob Schneider's album Lonelyland since a co-worker at SEL had brought it in after catching his performance on Austin City Limits. He described it as a really fun and charismatic performance. Anybody who wants a taste of Bob's dry sense of humor should check out his album commentaries at his website. Needless to say, after finding out that I could check out his live act in Spokane for $10, and he'd be appearing in a small venue like the B-Side, it just became a matter of getting Tatsu sold on the idea.
Normally I'm a jazz/classical fan when it comes to live music (nothing else seems to get the mix right), but I was really impressed by this performance. The sound was surprisingly great, there was lots of energy and humor, and Bob had a tremendous rapport with his bandmates. At one point, his mic chord shorted, but they handled it with much aplomb - not even missing a beat. Even better, he managed to turn it into a big joke regarding Radio Shack and commercialization. One of the neatest things he did was record the live show and then make it available in double-CD format right after the show. I wish all the artists at Jazz Alley would do this. It wouldn't be a big stretch technically, and I think it could be a great revenue stream. Personally, I often wished I could have an archive of some of the live performances I've seen. Kudos to Schneider for a great idea and a great show!

Moscow living...

Perhaps it is time to revisit an idea hatched last year, and comb the area for a possible sublet? Just a thought...

Festival at Sandpoint...

I'm pretty excited about the lineup posted for the 2004 Festival at Sandpoint, especially the August 14th show with Marcia Ball!
